GAVIN BROOKS

FINE ART     AMERICAN LANDSCAPE

Workshops

Stratford Hall Virginia 2010

May 3-8, 2010

The workshop will take place at Stratford Hall, one of America's great  historic homes and the birthplace of Robert E. Lee.  www.stratfordhall.org   With spectacular grounds, this Virginia tidewater plantation overlooks the cliffs of the Potomac. Our students will have the option of lodging on the property in single or double occupancy cottages with a meal plan available. Stratford Hall remains a very rural location but there is a town about 18 minutes away with commercial hotels available.

This 5 day workshop has sold out  for three years running because Gavin Brooks does not believe in holding back and delivers straightforward instruction.  An effective communicator, Gavin  provides step by step approaches to painting ground planes, water, skies and trees through a series of visuals and enlightening PowerPoint lectures each evening.    During the day artists expand on this by working on various locations with plenty of group instruction and individual easel visits.

During her demos Gavin paints while she explains what she is doing and why. Learn why this popular workshop continues to receive rave reviews!   Click here for testimonials from recent participants.  This workshop is always an ego-free zone where the instructor is approachable and the information is never vague.

Cost is $550 and deposit is 50% or $275.

Reserve now by emailing gavinbrooksart@aol.com  for application  or click here for application and deposit information.  Deposits are refundable up to 21 days prior to the start date. The limit is 18 students with an option to be placed on the waiting list.

Please be aware this class if filling quickly and once full we will keep a waiting list incase there are any cancellations.

Student Comments

“When it comes to teaching the landscape painting process,  Gavin Brooks is a national treasure!”      Wayne Beall  2008

To see what workshop student Carole Pierson has to say on her blog about her experience in Gavin's Workshop click below.

“Gavin is an excellent teacher.  I was awed by her sense of design and paint handling ability.  Her greatest gift to me was her sharing of her powers of observation in the landscape.  I'll never look at or paint clouds in the same way again.  “  2008

“I thought Gavin did an excellent, clear, interesting, very useful presentation of her painting style. It was probably the most useful instruction I have ever seen in a workshop. Very  worthwhile.”  2008

“The week was divided into interesting topics; water, reflection, trees ,greens and skies which put all the information into "edible bites". Her hand-outs were very helpful, as well as the PowerPoint presentations.   I had been impressed with her work before, but her many demonstrations on site were even more proof of her skills and experience” 2008

Gavin really delivers. She has a way of explaining what she is doing and why. “  2008
